Effective Tuesday, March 24th, The State of Wisconsin will be enacting a Safer at Home directive from Governor Tony Evers. The Executive Order highlights the expectation for individuals to refrain from public interaction except to receive essential services and supplies, and for those whose jobs are to provide such services and supplies. This is part of the statewide response to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the Coronavirus crisis is a prominent health alert for every person in Walworth County, hundreds of local residents continue to face chronic health conditions that are equally or even more life threatening to them. Patients needing dialysis, transfusions, chemotherapy, and other critical outpatient care that cannot be postponed must get to their medical providers regardless of external factors. Many of these individuals do not have reliable means to get to their appointments except for the transportation program operated by VIP Services.
Many other residents must get medication from their pharmacies and their only way to get them is by using either the Walworth County Wal-to-Wal Dial-a-Ride or Specialized Transportation Services programs, both run by VIP Services.
In addition to healthcare needs, VIP Services transportation department is a lifeline for many county residents who need to get groceries and other essential supplies so they can shelter in place.
VIP Services’ Transportation Department will continue to operate as an essential service for these residents.
As of Tuesday, we will not be transporting for non-essential trips as detailed by Governor Evers’ executive order dated March 24, 2020.
Additionally, we ask any individual who presents symptoms of the Coronavirus to isolate, contact your doctor, and not use our services. VIP Services’ Transportation Department is not an emergency transport service.
The transportation department’s hours of service for essential trips remain the same, as does the pre-scheduling requirements. Please refer to our webpage that details these at https://vipservices-inc.org/transportation/.
To schedule a ride, please contact the department at (262) 723-4402.
We will continue to update the community to any changes we are required to make by posting updates on VIP Services website and Facebook page.
