On April 18th, 2022, Delavan-Darien Scouts BSA Troop 328 and Troop 7328 had the opportunity to visit VIP SERVICES, INC. This visit was the last requirement for their Disabilities Awareness Merit Badge. The requirements include, “Visit an agency that works with people with physical, mental, emotional, or educational disabilities. Collect and read information about the agency’s activities. Learn about opportunities its members have for training, employment, and education. Discuss what you have learned with your counselor.” Our scouts had the opportunity to interact with VIP clients to get to know them on a personal basis that goes beyond the label of their disability. Both clients and scouts got to enjoy so dinosaur themed activities in honor of Velociraptor Awareness Day. Those activities helped the scouts see some of the challenges that people in society may have. Scouts and clients also had the opportunity to talk and learn about each other before moving on to learn more about the other opportunities at VIP SERVICES, INC.
The scouts had an opportunity to learn about the pre-voc shop and we had a great Q and A session at the end. One scout asked when he could get a job at VIP SERVICES, INC. These scouts were also offered a few volunteer opportunities in the near future to work with our clients at upcoming events.
A big thanks to the scouts for coming to visit; our VIP clients and team members enjoyed having you here!
